About ClinicJapan

What ClinicJapan is

ClinicJapan is an independent editorial guide to cosmetic medicine in Japan, published in English and Japanese. We are not a clinic, not a booking agency, and not affiliated with any medical provider. We take no advertising, no PR placements and no referral fees.

The one-line version: we publish what clinics do not put on their own pages — real price ranges, the risks and limits of each procedure, and how to tell one provider from another. Nothing on this site is paid for by a clinic.

Why it exists

Japanese cosmetic medicine is technically excellent and poorly documented for outsiders. Almost all available information comes from clinics themselves, which means pricing is presented as a starting figure rather than a total, risks are underweighted, and the differences between providers are invisible unless you already read Japanese.

Foreign visitors face a second layer: the licensing system, the advertising regulations, and the pharmaceutical approval framework that actually govern Japanese practice are rarely explained in English at all. We built this site to close both gaps.

Editorial policy

📐 What We Commit To
No advertisingWe accept no advertising fees from clinics. Every inclusion and exclusion is an editorial decision
No sponsorship or PRNo sponsored articles, no paid placements, no affiliate commission on treatments
IndependenceNo financial relationship with any clinic, device manufacturer or industry body
Honesty over optimismWe publish downsides, complication rates and failure cases alongside benefits
Sourced figuresPrices come from published clinic fee schedules and public listings, dated at the point of collection
Not a medical providerWe are an information publisher. We do not practise medicine and cannot advise on your case

How we research

Treatment information is built from primary sources: PMDA documentation for pharmaceutical and device approvals, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare guidance, and peer-reviewed literature indexed in PubMed, cited by identifier so readers can check it. Where we state something that is our own editorial judgement rather than a sourced finding, we label it as such in the sources section of the article.

Price data is compiled from clinics' own published fee schedules and public price listings, recorded with the month of collection. Prices in Japan move, and any figure on this site is a planning range rather than a quotation. Our research methodology page covers this in more detail.

ScopeSite-wide editorial policy on medical information, terminology standards, YMYL handling criteria, and policy updates when clinical guidelines change
CadenceMonthly sample review of newly published articles; quarterly review of editorial policy
Not in scopeIndividual article sign-off. Articles are researched and written by the editorial team under the reviewed policy
IndependenceThe reviewer has no financial relationship with any clinic covered on this site

We state this plainly because the distinction matters and is often blurred elsewhere: our reviewer sets and audits the standard the editorial team works to. He does not sign off each article individually, and we do not claim that he does.

What we cover

Cosmetic surgery (thread lifts, double eyelid, rhinoplasty, face lifting, liposuction), aesthetic dermatology (HIFU, pico laser, skin boosters, acne treatment), injectables (botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid fillers), aesthetic dentistry (veneers, whitening, implants, aligners), hair loss treatment, and the practical layer around all of it — how to choose a clinic, what a consultation involves, how payment works, and what to expect as a foreign patient.

The English site is written for visitors considering treatment in Japan. The Japanese site at clinicjapan.net/ja/ serves domestic readers and runs to a larger article count.

Corrections

We publish corrections rather than quietly editing. If you find an error — a price that has moved, a claim that overstates the evidence, a broken procedure description — write to us and we will check it. We aim to reply within 48 hours and to correct confirmed errors promptly, noting what changed.
